The acting head of the National Police Hospital who filled the post after the hospital chief was removed for drunk driving was also removed from the position over a prior drunk driving offense.
The Korean National Police Agency on the 11th removed A, the current acting head of the National Police Hospital, and designated the head of the hospital's second medical department as the new acting head.
A was fined 10 million won on Aug. 8 on a drunk driving charge. A reportedly drove about 10 kilometers around Seoul's Gangnam area with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.208%.
At the time, A received a heavy disciplinary action of a three-month suspension, but the Korean National Police Agency appointed A as acting head of the National Police Hospital. The Korean National Police Agency is said to have appointed A as acting head despite being aware of the facts, citing that A had already been disciplined.
Former National Police Hospital chief B was also booked on a drunk driving charge on Oct. 10 and was removed from the position. B caused an accident while driving under the influence in Seoul's Seocho District.
The National Police Hospital is an executive agency under the Korean National Police Agency. The hospital chief, appointed by the commissioner general of the Korean National Police Agency, holds a senior civil service level B position.
