It was found that among 178 data centers in Korea, 91% (162 centers) do not have sprinkler systems installed in their battery rooms.
The National Fire Agency announced an emergency fact-finding survey with these details on the 10th. The agency launched the survey following the fire at the National Information Resources Service in Daejeon. The survey found that 12.9% (23 centers) of data centers had computer rooms and battery rooms installed in the same location.
The National Fire Agency drew up "data center fire safety management measures" and said it will hold a forum to strengthen fire and safety management on the 11th at the SK Broadband Pangyo data center.
At the forum, data center officials and public-private experts are expected to discuss special response strategies for facilities with high fire risks, such as high-capacity lithium-ion batteries.
Based on the forum, the National Fire Agency plans to strengthen fire prevention and response measures tailored to the characteristics of data centers and continue to expand fire safety inspections of major data centers nationwide.
