Veteran actor Kim Ji-mi (birth name Kim Myeong-ja) has died. She was 85.
According to the film industry on the 10th, Kim Ji-mi died in the United States. It was reported that her health had weakened after she was recently infected with the shingles virus.
Born in 1940 in Daedeok County, South Chungcheong Province, she debuted with director Kim Ki-young's "Sunset Train" (1957). She then appeared in "The Land" (director Kim Soo-yong) and "Gilsotteum" (director Im Kwon-taek), leading the resurgence of Korean cinema.
Celebrated for her striking looks, she was once called the Elizabeth Taylor of the East and received honors including best actress at the Panama International Film Festival and the Grand Bell Awards. She was also active as a film producer.
The Korean Film Council said it is preparing a film industry funeral under the association's auspices.
