Police are looking into whether TV personality Park Na-rae violated the Narcotics Control Act.
According to police and others on the 9th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul assigned an investigative team on the 8th and opened a probe into a complaint seeking punishment for Park Na-rae, a person surnamed Lee identified as the "injection aunt," and Park's managers.
At Gangnam Police Station, a complaint was filed the previous day through the National Sinmungo alleging violations of the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropics), the Medical Service Act, and the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, among others, against Park Na-rae, the injection aunt, and Park's former manager.
Gangnam Police Station is also said to be broadly reviewing not only potential violations of the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropics) but also the Medical Service Act, the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, the Wastes Control Act, and the Act on the Special Measures for the Control of Public Health Crimes.
Park Na-rae is under suspicion of having received illegal medical procedures from Lee, who is called the injection aunt. She is said to have obtained antidepressants and other drugs from Lee and to have received IV drips in an officetel or a vehicle.
Park Na-rae became embroiled in controversy after revelations by former managers about "gapjil." Additional allegations that she received illegal medical care and proxy prescriptions further fueled the controversy.
It is also alleged that even when handling overseas schedules for variety show shoots, Park Na-rae was accompanied by Lee, known as the injection aunt, and that Park called Lee to the airport to receive an IV infusion.
Lee claimed on her social media (SNS) to be the youngest professor at Pokang University Hospital, but after a doctors' group issued a statement saying "Pokang University School of Medicine did not exist," she deleted all related posts.
Police are also said to be reviewing a civil request to impose an emergency overseas travel ban on Lee. According to the medical community, prescriptions by a doctor without a domestic license are illegal.
Meanwhile, on the 8th, Park Na-rae posted a lengthy statement on SNS regarding the manager gapjil allegations and announced a pause in her activities. However, she did not mention her relationship with Lee, the injection aunt, or the alleged legal violations.
