The Uijeongbu District Court Criminal Division 11 (Presiding Judge Oh Chang-seop) on the 9th issued an additional arrest warrant for Honorary Representative Heo Kyung-young of the National Revolutionary Party in a trial on charges including fraud, embezzlement, violations of the Political Funds Act, and quasi-indecent assault, saying there was a risk of evidence destruction. Heo had been on trial in detention for about six months after being arrested and indicted in June, and the detention period was set to expire on the 10th.
Prosecutors recently filed an additional indictment on fraud charges, saying that in Feb. 2021, Heo told the victim that he "presides over fortune and misfortune" and deceived the person into paying 1 million won. The court consolidated this with the existing case and issued a separate arrest warrant.
After the additional arrest warrant was executed, Heo's side pushed back, saying, "There has been no questioning in the additionally indicted case, and the very premise that 1 million won was paid due to deception is difficult to establish."
