The National Fire Agency said on the 8th that 119 Safe Call won the president's award (gold prize) at the 2025 Government Innovation Grand Prix hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The Government Innovation Grand Prix is held every year to identify and spread outstanding cases of government innovation by government ministries and public institutions.
Among 531 innovation cases identified this year by central and local governments and public institutions, 119 Safe Call was selected as the best case. 119 Safe Call had previously been operated only for emergency medical activities, but the National Fire Agency expanded the scope of services to social and natural disaster areas through collaboration with relevant ministries.
It also received high marks for improving accessibility and the service environment so that those vulnerable to disasters can use it easily, and for strengthening its features to send an alert message simultaneously to a designated guardian (or proxy) in the event of a disaster so they can get help.
Acting Administrator Kim Seung-ryong said, "This award is the result of the dedication of firefighters nationwide who have quietly continued innovation to solve people's difficulties," adding, "We will continue to identify and spread innovation cases that people can feel, and build a safer society."
