On the 8th, Park Chan-un, Chairperson of the Prosecution Reform Promotion Team's advisory committee, poured out pointed remarks, saying she "hopes for actor Cho Jin-woong's return."
According to the legal community and others, Park posted on her social media (SNS) account that she "feels deep anger at the coldheartedness of a society that ultimately dragged him off the stage," adding that "this is not justice but only a collective lynching."
She explained, "The criminal record in question is a protective disposition from his youth, not as an adult," and "the juvenile protective disposition is a system designed to return youths to society through correction and protection."
She continued, "Cho Jin-woong's life is the most successful example of the purpose that system aims for," emphasizing that "Cho proved that 'rehabilitation is possible' and is a symbol of hope for troubled youths."
Park, the Chairperson, said, "Judging an entire human life by a single line from youth records is not justice but violence. The Republic of Korea must not become a country that crushes the hopes of those who went through troubled adolescence," adding, "I hope for Cho Jin-woong's return."
Meanwhile, the Prosecution Reform Promotion Team is an agency that promotes follow-up measures for prosecution reform, including the establishment of the Public Prosecution Service and the High-Ranking Crimes Investigation Service in accordance with the amendment to the Government Organization Act, and it was launched in Oct. It operates under the Prime Minister.
