In connection with the "Cheongdo Mugunghwa train accident," which left 7 casualties in August, three people, including a Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) subcontracted design firm official and a work manager, were arrested on charges of occupational negligence resulting in death.
According to the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency on the 5th, they are suspected of causing the casualty accident by deploying workers to the site without following safety rules. Those arrested are known to be a Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) outsourced design manager, a work supervisor at a subcontractor, and a rail operation safety manager.
Joo Gyeong-tae, the judge in charge of warrants at the Daegu District Court, issued the warrants, saying there were concerns about flight risk and destruction of evidence.
Earlier, on the 1st, police sought arrest warrants for five people, including the head of the Daegu regional headquarters of the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL). Warrants were issued for three of them. Since the accident, police have booked seven related officials and are investigating.
On Aug. 19 near tracks on the Gyeongbu Line in Cheongdo County, North Gyeongsang, a Mugunghwa train struck one KORAIL employee and six subcontracted workers who were moving to conduct a facility safety inspection. Two subcontracted workers were killed and five on-site workers were injured.
Of the six subcontracted workers who were killed or injured, two were not on the personnel list in the work plan initially drawn up by the company.
