Police who were dispatched after a report of unlawful confinement found signs of a prostitution operation and launched an investigation.
According to police on Jan. 5, the Gwangju Seobu Police Station confirmed signs that prostitution had taken place in some units of a studio apartment building in Ssangchon-dong, Seo District, the previous afternoon and began an investigation.
Police were dispatched after a woman called 112 saying, "I followed a man who said he would pay me into a room and got locked in and cannot get out," and reportedly discovered indications of prostitution.
Police have detained a man in his 40s, identified as A, suspected of being a pimp, and a woman in her 20s, identified as B, and are said to have found women in other units of the same building who were also suspected of engaging in prostitution.
Police will investigate the circumstances of the case, the scale of the brokerage, and whether there were additional participants, and plan to book A and B on charges including arranging prostitution.
