Jang Kyung-tae, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker who faces allegations of sexual harassment, on the 2nd filed a countersuit accusing the accuser of false accusation and other charges.
On the morning of the day, Jang visited the civil affairs office of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and filed a complaint against a woman, identified as A, who accused him of quasi-forcible molestation. He also filed a complaint against A's ex-boyfriend, identified as B, on charges including false accusation, assault, and violation of the Protection of Communications Secrets Act.
Meeting reporters in front of the civil affairs office that day, Jang said, "If there had been an actual victimization and if a complaint had been filed last year, I would not have been able to mount any defense." He added, "At the time of the initial 112 report, I was not the subject of the investigation," and said, "If the word 'sexual harassment' had been in the report, there is no way it would have been overlooked under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration."
Jang also said, "I think the practical benefit that staffers from another party would gain by accusing me is likely political." Asked whether there was any direct or indirect inducement or pressure on A after the incident, Jang answered, "Not at all."
Jang's attorney explained that they accused A's then-boyfriend of assault for actions such as grabbing Jang by the back of the neck, and reported him for assault from a third-party standpoint over indications that he committed dating violence against A.
Earlier, A filed a complaint last October, saying she was molested by Jang at a drinking gathering in Yeouido, Seoul. The Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency is currently investigating.
