The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 1st that it held a countermeasure meeting with related agencies as snow is forecast starting on the 2nd.
The Korea meteorological Administration expected 3–8 centimeters of snow mainly along the South Chungcheong west coast, North Jeolla west coast and northern South Jeolla west coast from the night of the 2nd. It said snow is also forecast on the 4th mainly in the central region.
Cold weather is also expected to continue for the time being along with the snow. According to the Korea meteorological Administration, starting on the 2nd the nationwide low will fall to minus 5 degrees, to minus 11 degrees on the 3rd, and to minus 12 degrees on the 4th.
In response, at the meeting on the day, Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters Chief Kim Gwang-yong asked related agencies to focus on inspections of vulnerable facilities, prompt snow removal, and stronger safety management for groups vulnerable to cold in areas where snow is forecast.
Deputy Minister Kim also said, "In light of the case where heavy wet snow fell as the first snow last winter, causing casualties, thoroughly carry out prior inspections, controls, and repair and reinforcement measures for vulnerable facilities such as structures susceptible to snow load and temporary buildings."
