Police said on the 1st that they have secured and are analyzing video and other materials related to the recent sexual harassment allegations against lawmaker Jang Kyung-tae of the Democratic Party of Korea.
An official at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said at a regular press briefing that "we have secured part of the video of the restaurant interior submitted by the person who filmed it," adding, "we are securing additional materials." The official also said, "We are coordinating the appearances of the accuser and those who were present together."
Police confirmed the 112 dispatch log from the time of the incident but found that no investigation into Jang had been conducted. An official at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said, "We will conduct a detailed investigation later."
A complaint alleging that Jang molested National Assembly female secretary A at a gathering at a restaurant in Yeouido, Seoul, in Oct. last year was recently filed with the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul. The case was transferred to the Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and is currently investigating.
Jang denied the sexual harassment allegations and said he would file a complaint for false accusation against the accuser. Through his social media (SNS), Jang said, "We will respond strongly, including legal action, to the completely false and malicious slander of false accusation."
However, an official at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said, "A request for an investigation into false accusation has not yet been received," adding, "we will decide later."
