Veteran actor Lee Mun-su, who appeared in the tvN drama "Signal" and the film "Hello Ghost," died after battling lung cancer. He was 76.
According to the Korean Actors Association and others on the 29th, Lee closed his eyes the previous night at a hospital in Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2022 and was said to have continued treatment while traveling to and from the hospital.
A graduate of Seoul Institute of the Arts, Lee joined the National Theater Company in 1989 and went on to appear in major productions such as "The Crucible," "The Problematic Human Yeonsan," "Death of a Salesman," "1984," "The Seagull," and "King Lear," establishing himself as a leading mid-career actor in the theater world. With solid acting skills and stage presence, he earned the trust and respect of fellow actors and juniors alike.
He was also active on the big and small screens. In 2010, he took impressive supporting roles in the film "Hello Ghost" and the SBS drama "The President," raising his public profile, and in 2016, he was praised for heightening the drama's tension with a bold performance in tvN's "Signal." In the same year, he received a Minister's Commendation from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in recognition of his contributions to the development of culture and the arts.
The mourning hall has been set up in Room 2 of the funeral home at Hanyang University Seoul Hospital in Seoul, and the funeral is on Dec. 1.
