The main perpetrator, a Chinese compatriot (Joseonjok), in the case of a Korean college student who was tortured and killed in a Cambodian crime compound has been caught by local police.
According to police and others on the 28th, Cambodian investigators arrested a person surnamed Li the previous day in the capital, Phnom Penh, on suspicion of murder and other charges. Li was reportedly apprehended while dining at a restaurant. Cambodian investigators are questioning Li about the circumstances of the crime.
Li is suspected of torturing and killing a Korean college student, a person surnamed Park (22), near Bokor Mountain in Kampot Province, Cambodia, in August. Park told family on July 17, "I will go to an expo," and then entered Cambodia. Detained and tortured in a crime compound run by a Chinese criminal organization, Park was found dead on Aug. 8 inside a vehicle in the Bokor Mountain area of Kampot Province.
Spurred by this case, Korean and Cambodian investigators launched a "Korean task force" on the 10th to handle crimes in Cambodia involving Koreans.
