Police have sought an arrest warrant for a man in his 50s who killed his former partner and dumped the body in a wastewater treatment tank.
The North Chungcheong Provincial Police Agency said on the 28th that it applied for an arrest warrant for a person surnamed Kim, 54, on charges of murder and abandoning a body.
Kim learned on the 14th of last month that former partner A was seeing another man. Enraged, Kim fatally stabbed A more than 10 times inside A's SUV.
Kim put A's body in a sack and was found to have dumped it into a wastewater treatment tank at a waste disposal company in Eumseong County, North Chungcheong Province, with which he had regular transactions.
At about 6:30 p.m. on the 14th of last month, A left a company in Heungdeok District, Cheongju, in A's own car after work and then could not be reached. On the 16th, two days later, police began tracking A's whereabouts after receiving a report from A's child saying, "After speaking with my mother, who lives alone, around midday on the 14th, I have not been able to contact her."
In the process, police urgently arrested Kim on the 26th on suspicion of injury resulting in death. During questioning, Kim confessed to killing A. Police then changed the charge from injury resulting in death to murder and sought an arrest warrant.
A pre-arrest suspect interrogation (substantive warrant review) for Kim is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the Cheongju District Court.
