A drunk driving vehicle that police missed drove itself into a police station parking lot, where the driver was caught. It was found that the driver drank until the morning and then drove to the station at lunchtime to be questioned as a reference in a separate case.
According to police on the 26th, at about 11:40 a.m. on Sept. 14, a report came in that there was a vehicle suspected of drunk driving in the Jayu-ro area of Goyang, Gyeonggi.
Police closely patrolled, estimating the direction of travel based on the license plate number and vehicle features provided by the caller, but did not find the vehicle. The officers then briefly stopped at Ilsan Dongbu Police Station to service enforcement equipment.
Then a vehicle with the same license plate as the suspected drunk driving vehicle the police were looking for entered the station's parking lot. An officer who saw this in the side mirror immediately approached A, a man in his 30s, and conducted an alcohol detection test, which showed a blood alcohol content of 0.120%, a license cancellation level.
Police arrested A at the scene at about 12:10 p.m. that day on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).
A reportedly visited the station that day to be questioned by the criminal division as a reference in a separate case.
A police official said, "A said 'I drank with an acquaintance in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, until the morning, then slept a bit and came out,'" and added, "We sent the case to the prosecution on the 20th of last month."
