A passenger in his 50s who lied that there was an explosive in his baggage at Incheon International Airport is under police investigation, authorities said on the 24th.
According to the Incheon International Airport Police, at about 5:08 a.m. that day, a report came in to the departure counter at Terminal 2 of Incheon International Airport in Jung District, Incheon, that there was an object suspected to be an explosive in a Styrofoam box.
Police deployed an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team and searched the box belonging to A, a person in his 50s, but found nothing unusual.
A is said to have been reported to police after saying, while arguing with airline employee B at the departure hall, "There is an explosive in the box."
Police voluntarily brought in A for questioning on suspicion of public intimidation.
A police official said, "The false report of an explosive did not delay aircraft operations," and added, "We plan to further investigate why A falsely said there was an explosive."
