A chauffeur was arrested on suspicion of threatening a small and midsize enterprise chairman's family with a weapon and demanding money in the heart of Gangnam, Seoul.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul said on the 22nd that it arrested A, a man in his 50s, on suspicion of attempted aggravated robbery.
A is accused of picking up a woman in her 30s and a child—those he was assigned to chauffeur—in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam District, at about 9 p.m. on the 19th, then threatening them with a weapon and demanding money.
The victims fled when the vehicle briefly stopped and called police. Responding to the report, police secured a discarded weapon near the scene and urgently arrested A. No casualties occurred in the incident.
Police sought an arrest warrant for A, and the court issued it the previous day, citing concerns about destruction of evidence and flight risk.
