A fire broke out on a low mountain in Seorim-ri, Yangyang County, Gangwon. As the wildfire spread, nearby residents were ordered to evacuate.
According to fire authorities and others on the 22nd, a wildfire occurred around 6:26 p.m. in Seorim-ri, Seomyeon, Yangyang County, Gangwon. The forestry authorities are using 93 pieces of firefighting equipment, 356 personnel, and a thermal imaging drone to put out the blaze.
Fanned by wind, the flames formed a band about 500 meters long near the halfway point of Jochimnyeong's fifth ridge section and were confirmed to be spreading downslope. Around 7:35 p.m., Yangyang County sent emergency text alerts asking residents near the fire, including in Seorim-ri, Galcheon, and Songcheon, to evacuate to community centers and other shelters.
A dry weather advisory is in effect at the wildfire site, with winds blowing at 4–5 meters per second. The forestry authorities plan to deploy 13 helicopters around 7:15 a.m., the time of sunrise tomorrow, to begin suppression.
