Chaeyoung, a member of the girl group TWICE, will temporarily halt activities for health reasons.
JYP Entertainment, Chaeyoung's agency, issued a notice with these details on the 20th.
JYP Entertainment said, "Chaeyoung was recently diagnosed with vasovagal syncope and, based on consultations with specialists and thorough examinations, was taking a rest when it was concluded that she needs an additional recovery period," and added, "After lengthy discussions, Chaeyoung has decided to suspend activities for the time being and focus on treatment, stability, and sufficient rest."
According to the medical community, vasovagal syncope is a condition in which extreme physical or mental tension or stress causes the heart rate and blood pressure to drop suddenly, reducing blood flow to the brain and leading to a temporary loss of consciousness.
JYP Entertainment said, "Chaeyoung is currently aiming for sufficient rest and recovery of her condition through the end of the year and, based on the judgment that health must come first, will participate minimally in upcoming schedules or, if unavoidable, not participate."
It continued, "She will also be unable to join the world tour concerts scheduled in Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, and Bangkok, and Chaeyoung herself feels deep regret about this," and added, "She once again conveyed her apologies to fans for not being able to participate in fan events and the world tour since late October."
It added, "We sincerely apologize for causing concern to the fans who always send warm love," and said, "We will do our best to support Chaeyoung so she can stand before fans again in good health as soon as possible, and we ask for much support and encouragement for a speedy recovery."
Chaeyoung debuted with TWICE in 2015 and marked the 10th anniversary this year. In September, Chaeyoung released a solo album and received great love for the Netflix animated film "K-pop Demon Hunters" (Kedeheon) OST "Take Down," which she sang with fellow members Jeongyeon and Jihyo.
