A story about checking one or two months' worth of lottery tickets all at once during Chuseok and hitting the jackpot with simultaneous first- and second-prize wins has gone viral.
According to lottery operator Donghaeng Lottery on the 19th, the person identified as A bought tickets at a lottery retailer in Sosa-gu, Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, and won one first-prize ticket and four second-prize tickets in the 277th Pension Lottery 720+.
In a winner's interview, A said, "I often buy lottery tickets, and recently I started buying the pension lottery as well," and added, "Because I always buy them, I developed a habit of checking them all at once after a month or two, and with this long Chuseok holiday, I went through the tickets I had saved one by one and realized I had won first prize."
A said, "Even after checking with the QR code, I couldn't believe it, so I rewatched the previous drawing broadcast and also passed by and checked the retailer where I bought the tickets." A then said, "From the moment I learned about the win while back home for the holiday, I thought my late parents had helped me."
Regarding plans for the prize money, A said it will be used to help purchase dwellings. In a brief comment on winning, A also wrote, "Good luck to me. I will live even more humbly."
To win first prize in the Pension Lottery 720+, all seven characters, including the group letter and six-digit number, must match. First prize pays 7 million won per month for 20 years, and second prize pays 1 million won per month for 10 years.
With the simultaneous first- and second-prize wins, A will receive more than 2.1 billion won in prize money over the next 20 years.
