Busan City said on the 20th that CTC, a subsidiary of Airbus, a global space, aviation, and defense industry corporations, has opened a research and development (R&D) office in Busan.

CTC is a specialized German research institute dedicated to the design of composite aircraft structures and the development of process technologies. Airbus owns 100% of it. According to Busan City, this is the first time CTC, which has four offices in Germany, has established an office in Korea.

CTC will move into the Technopark (TP) branch complex in Gangseo District, Busan. To expand R&D in the future, the company plans to dispatch headquarters staff to Busan and hire researchers in Korea. Through this, it aims to develop the Busan office into a technology innovation hub in the composite materials field for mobility across Asia.

Busan City said it expects that attracting CTC will enable local aircraft parts corporations to secure the technological capabilities and networks that meet the global composite materials supply chain. Based on cooperation among local governments, domestic leading (anchor) corporations, universities, and research institutes (government-industry-academia-research collaboration), it will promote joint research and development while actively supporting technological innovation by domestic aircraft parts corporations and the creation of a sustainable industrial ecosystem.

CTC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Marc Pete said, "Based on Busan's solid industrial infrastructure and the innovation capabilities of partner corporations, we expect to promote innovation projects in advanced composite materials with various partners and build long-term cooperative relationships."

Park Heong-joon, the mayor of Busan, said, "The opening of CTC's Busan office is a practical first step for Busan to be connected to the global supply chain," adding, "We will do our best so that the region's outstanding parts manufacturing corporations can link with CTC to create an industrial ecosystem where everyone coexists, and to bear fruit with the 'Busan Future Aviation Cluster' linked to the new Gadeokdo Airport."
