A suspect under investigation for false accusation was arrested after sending bundles of cash and gifts to the police officer investigating the case. The suspect also faces a bribery charge.
According to police on the 18th, in early September a taxi driver delivered a parcel box to Sergeant A of the investigative division at the Saha Police Station in Busan.
The taxi driver said, "In Changwon, South Gyeongsang, a customer asked me to deliver the box without getting in the car."
Sergeant A filmed a video while opening the package, and the box contained bundles of 10,000-won bills worth about 6 million won.
In the taxi's dashcam footage appeared B, a man in his 70s and the suspect in the case Sergeant A was investigating. Instead of appearing for questioning, B sent the investigator a parcel box filled with cash.
In May, B filed a fraud complaint against two acquaintances, saying they had not repaid tens of millions of won he had lent them, and faced a countersuit for false accusation, leading to a police investigation.
On the 2nd of last month, the second requested appearance date, he again sent Sergeant A 4 million won in cash along with a fruit box instead of appearing.
The attached letter said he could not appear because of poor health and also included wording that could imply additional bribery.
Police determined that B gave the bribe to Sergeant A to quash the investigation, added a bribery charge to the false accusation charge, arrested B, and referred the case to prosecutors.
