A Japanese woman has been put on trial on charges of forcibly molesting Jin, a member of BTS.
The Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office said on the 17th that on the 12th it indicted a Japanese woman in her 50s, identified as A, on charges of indecent acts in a crowded place under the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
A is accused of forcibly kissing Jin on the cheek during a hugging (free hug) event held at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Songpa District, Seoul, on June 13 last year. The scene spread on social media (SNS) at the time, sparking controversy over sexual harassment, and some fans filed civil complaints through the National Sinmungo, asking for an investigation on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
Police booked A and summoned her in February, but decided in March to suspend the investigation because she had already left the country. After A reentered Korea and voluntarily appeared, police resumed the investigation and forwarded the case to prosecutors in May.
