Police launched an investigation after allegations surfaced that an active-duty police intelligence officer leaked foreign affairs-related information and documents to the Chinese consulate in Korea.
The Busan Metropolitan Police Agency's Industrial Technology Security Investigation Unit said on the 16th that it conducted a search and seizure of the cellphone and other devices of Officer A, an intelligence officer with the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency's regional intelligence team.
Officer A is suspected of leaking information obtained in the course of duty to the Chinese consulate in Korea. Shortly after the search and seizure earlier this month, police reassigned Officer A to a non-intelligence post at a frontline police station.
Officer A is said to deny the allegations.
