One more person was added to the injured in the truck rampage accident at Jeil Market in Bucheon, Gyeonggi, on the 13th.
Police said they revised the number of injured after a woman in her 60s who had gone home at the time of the accident informed them that she had pain in her back. As a result, the number of people injured in this accident increased from 18 to 19, including nine seriously injured patients (emergency and urgent patients).
Police also corrected the ages of the two deceased, initially announced as being in their 70s, to a woman in her 70s and a Chinese national woman in her 60s.
Earlier, at around 10:54 a.m. on the 13th, at Jeil Market in Wonjong-dong, Ojeong-gu, Bucheon, Gyeonggi, a 1-ton (t) truck driven by A, 67, rushed onto a pedestrian path inside the market.
The Bucheon Ojeong Police Station urgently arrested A on charges of occupational negligence resulting in death and injury under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents. A was said to have claimed sudden unintended acceleration to police. However, police said that after reviewing closed-circuit (CC) TV, the brake lights did not come on.
Police plan to request examinations from the National Forensic Service and the Korea Road Traffic Authority and confirm the exact cause of the accident based on analyses such as the event data recorder (EDR).
