A commotion broke out when firefighters and police launched a search after a student who was supposed to take the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) did not appear at the test site.
At about 9:10 a.m. on the 13th, the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul received a report from Yeongil High School in Gangseo District that a child who was supposed to take the CSAT had gone missing. When the student did not show up at the test site, the school contacted the parents, and the parents reported it to police.
Firefighters and police first identified the missing person's location as near the north end of Mapo Bridge in Mapo District. Considering the possibility of a jump, the Mapo Fire Station deployed three vehicles, 14 personnel, and one high-speed rescue boat from the water rescue unit to search the Han River.
During the search, the student's location was reidentified as near Yeouido in Yeongdeungpo District. Police found the missing student in Yeouido at about 10:10 a.m.
The reason for the student's absence is unknown. Police plan to hand the student over to the parents.
