The Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute (KoAGI) said on the 13th that it relocated the Baekdu Mountain tiger "Miryeong," which had been living at Daejeon O-World, to the Tiger Forest at the Baekdudaegan National Arboretum in Bonghwa, North Gyeongsang.
According to the Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute (KoAGI) that day, Miryeong is a name meaning a beautiful and clever tiger, and she is a female born in May 2021.
Miryeong's relocation was carried out under a business agreement with Daejeon O-World on Sept. It was conducted safely on the 22nd of last month with a veterinarian and a keeper accompanying the entire route in a vibration-free, temperature- and humidity-controlled vehicle, checking her condition at all times.
Immediately after the relocation, Miryeong completed a basic health checkup and is currently adapting to the environment indoors, and the arboretum plans to open her to the public later after comprehensively assessing her stabilization level and internal conditions.
The Tiger Forest at the Baekdudaegan National Arboretum is the size of 5.4 soccer fields, covering 3.8 hectares, and was created to most closely resemble the natural habitat of the Baekdu Mountain tiger. With the nation's top-level facilities, it provides conditions for tigers to adapt and live in good health.
Miryeong will live with five tigers: Uri (male, 14), Han (male, 11) and Do (female, 11), who are siblings, and Taebeom (male, 5) and Mugung (female, 5), who are siblings.
Lee Gyumyeong, director of the Baekdudaegan National Arboretum, said, "We thank Daejeon O-World for cooperating so that we could welcome the Baekdu Mountain tiger, an internationally endangered species, into the arboretum's family," and added, "We will devote our efforts so that all Baekdu Mountain tigers at the arboretum can live healthily and happily."
