Five medical staff members have been brought to trial in connection with the death of a woman in her 30s at a psychiatric hospital in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, operated by psychiatrist Yang Jae-woong.
The Bucheon District Office of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office said on the 12th that it indicted attending physician A under arrest on charges including occupational negligence resulting in death, and indicted four others, including nurse B, without detention on the same charge.
They are accused of leaving patient C, a woman in her 30s who was admitted to a Bucheon hospital on May 27 last year, without taking appropriate measures, causing her death.
According to prosecutors, A failed to properly observe C's condition despite her complaints of abdominal pain and instructed nurses to administer psychotropic drugs.
In addition, during this process, A falsified the medical records, and evidence also emerged that nurses conducted unlicensed medical practices by administering drugs without A's prescription and carried out illegal restraint and isolation.
Prosecutors are also investigating seven hospital officials, including Director Yang. An official at the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office said, "We will do our utmost to maintain the indictment during the trial."
