George Mason University Korea said on the 11th that it opened the "Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE)" in Songdo, Incheon.
George Mason University's CIE, an institution under the School of Business at the U.S. main campus, plans to ramp up a Korea–U.S. entrepreneurship and innovation collaboration system through this opening. The center put forward as its core strategies: nurturing entrepreneurial talent, academia–industry–research applied research, and building a platform for domestic Start - Up firms to expand overseas.
At the opening ceremony held the previous day at Incheon Global Campus, attendees included David Burge, vice president for enrollment at George Mason University, and JK Ayer, senior associate dean of the School of Business, as well as officials from the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, Seoul National University, and Incheon Technopark.
Centered on NISA (Northern Virginia International Soft Landing Accelerator), a program that supports entry into the U.S. East Coast, the center is helping companies enter the local market and is preparing a model linked to Incheon's specialized industries.
Joshua K. Park, head of George Mason University Korea, said, "The launch of the 'Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE)' is meaningful in that it has established a practical global entrepreneurship platform connecting Korea and the United States."
George Mason University is a leading public research university on the U.S. East Coast, with its main campus in Virginia adjacent to Washington, D.C. In a recent Wall Street Journal university ranking, it placed 76th overall and 30th among public universities.
