A man who hit a Japanese tourist mother and daughter while driving drunk, killing one, was sent to prosecutors under arrest.
Seoul Hyehwa Police Station said on the 11th that it sent a man in his 30s, a person surnamed Seo, to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office under arrest on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act and dangerous driving resulting in death or injury under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
Seo is accused of drinking alcohol and then driving about 1 kilometer at around 10 p.m. on the 2nd before veering onto the sidewalk at Heunginjimun Intersection near Dongdaemun Station in Jongno District and hitting a Japanese mother and daughter who were crossing the crosswalk. There was no passenger at the time.
In the crash, the mother, a woman in her 50s, died, and the daughter in her 30s suffered a knee fracture and a forehead laceration.
The investigation found that before the crash, Seo had drunk about three bottles of soju. His blood alcohol concentration exceeded the license revocation threshold (0.08%).
On the 5th, the court issued an arrest warrant for Seo, citing a "risk of flight."
