The Korean National Police Agency said that as of September this year, reported losses from voice phishing (phone-based financial fraud) totaled 986.7 billion won. The figure excludes romance scams and "no-show" scams.
An official at the Korean National Police Agency said at a regular briefing on the 10th that "losses from impersonating public institutions amounted to 759.6 billion won, and loan fraud losses amounted to 227.1 billion won," and stated accordingly.
With the launch of the "Integrated Response Unit for Telecommunication and Financial Fraud," police said the response rate to reports rose from 62.9% to 98.2%.
An official at the Korean National Police Agency said, "By analyzing reported cases, we blocked more than 35,000 items including phone numbers, relays, and phishing sites," and added, "In a joint effort with the Korea Media and Communications Commission and the Korea Media and Communications Deliberation Commission, we deleted 1,800 phishing lure posts starting on the 17th of last month."
The official added, "In the third week of September, there were 956 phishing lure posts, which decreased to 722 in the fourth week of Oct., down by a little over 230."
