The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said on Jan. 9 that on Jan. 10 it will hold a training session for parents of children at daycare centers on preparing for entry into elementary school at the small theater of the Chungmu Art Center in Jung-gu.

For the first time, the education office's training, which had been run mainly for kindergarten parents, will be expanded to include parents of children ages 3 to 5 in the Nuri curriculum at daycare centers.

This training focuses on ways to support children about to enter elementary school with school adjustment, learning attitudes, and peer relationships, and on strengthening parenting competencies appropriate to developmental stages. The main programs include: ▲ a lecture by an early childhood education and care expert ▲ guidance from a current elementary school teacher on the elementary curriculum and school life ▲ time for communication and empathy with parents.

Seoul education chief Jeong Geun-sik said, "I hope this training helps parents better understand elementary education and reduces the burden of private education," adding, "We will do our best to support happy learning for each and every child and to restore trust in public education."
