Search efforts continue for two workers whose burial locations have not been confirmed in connection with the collapse at the Ulsan thermal power plant, but their locations remain unconfirmed. The Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office formed a dedicated investigation team related to the accident.
According to fire authorities on the 8th, about 40 rescue workers were deployed overnight in teams of five, rotating every 30 minutes. Drones, thermal imaging detectors, and endoscopic cameras were also mobilized, but the two missing people still have not been found.
At about 2:02 p.m. on the 6th, a boiler tower collapsed at the Ulsan thermal power plant at the Ulsan Power Division of Korea East-West Power (EWP) in Namhwadong, Nam District, Ulsan. There were nine workers at the time. Excluding the two missing, there are three dead and two presumed dead. Two injured people taken to the hospital immediately after the accident were said to be not in life-threatening condition.
The tangled steel structure of the collapsed boiler tower has made the search difficult. Units 4 and 6 on either side of Unit 5, where the boiler tower sank, are also at risk of collapse. Fire authorities said they are continuing to discuss efficient search and rescue measures with experts, including structural safety engineers.
Meanwhile, the Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office formed a dedicated investigation team in connection with the accident. The dedicated investigation team consists of 10 people, including prosecutors and investigators from the department in charge of public investigations (Criminal Division 5).
The Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office, which is a prosecution office focusing on industrial safety, said it organized a dedicated investigation team immediately after the accident with prosecutors and investigators who have expertise in investigating serious industrial accidents, considering the seriousness of the accident that resulted in multiple casualties.
Earlier, the Ulsan Metropolitan Police Agency also formed a dedicated police investigation team on the 6th, led by the Head of Team of the Criminal Mobile Unit, and composed of about 70 officers from the forensics division, digital forensics division, and others.
