In downtown Daejeon, a Tesla sedan sped forward and caused a 10-vehicle pileup. In the crash, a motorcycle rider was killed and 15 people were injured.
According to the Yuseong Police Station in Daejeon, at about 1:50 p.m. on the 8th, on a road near the Shinsegae Department Store in Yuseong District, Daejeon, a Tesla driven by a person in their 40s, identified as A, crashed into a motorcycle ahead.
The motorcycle then ricocheted, triggering a chain collision involving eight other vehicles, including a taxi. The motorcycle rider died in the crash, and A and a passenger in the Tesla were reported to have suffered serious injuries. Thirteen drivers of other vehicles reportedly sustained minor injuries.
Police believe the Tesla continued driving and collided with the motorcycle and vehicles as the light turned red and traffic was stopping.
A police official said, "A breathalyzer test after the crash found no alcohol," and noted, "We plan to book the Tesla driver and will proceed with questioning after recovery from the serious injuries."
