In a children protection zone (school zone), a child crossing at a crosswalk was struck by a right-turning vehicle and became trapped underneath. Citizens nearby rushed in and lifted the vehicle, and the boy, identified as A, was reportedly not seriously injured.
According to Yonhap News on the 7th, the Suwon Yeongtong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said that at about 9:05 p.m. on the 6th, at a diagonal crosswalk in a school zone in Maetan-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, a Spark passenger car driven by a woman in her 50s, identified as A, hit a child identified as B, who was crossing on a bicycle.
A, who was coming out of an apartment and making a right turn, was not traveling at high speed, but the crash left B, still on the bicycle, pinned under the front bumper of the car.
About a dozen nearby citizens witnessed the crash, ran over, and slowly lifted the car, and B was rescued. Taken to a hospital, B is being treated for facial abrasions and other injuries. The injuries are not life-threatening, according to reports.
A reportedly told police the crash happened because the driver did not see B. Considering that the crash occurred in a school zone, police plan to investigate A on suspicion of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
