On the afternoon of the 6th, a freight train derailed at Yongsan Station in Seoul. Because of this incident, trains on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line heading toward Cheongnyangni are passing through Yongsan Station without stopping.
According to Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), at about 3:30 p.m. that day, the rear one car of a freight train running between Yongsan Station and Ichon Station left the track. The train had a total of 20 cars and was not carrying cargo. It departed from Susaek Station and was en route to Donghae Station. There were no casualties.
According to KORAIL, as of 4:30 p.m. that day, commuter trains on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line bound for Cheongnyangni Station are passing through Yongsan Station without stopping. The departure and arrival station for Gyeongui-Jungang Line ITX-Cheongchun trains has been changed from Yongsan Station to Cheongnyangni Station. Trunk line trains such as KTX, Saemaeul, and Mugunghwa are operating normally.
A KORAIL official said, "Train operations may be partially adjusted for safe recovery work," and asked the public to check the smartphone app "KORAIL Talk," in-station announcements, or onboard announcements. The official also said, "Transfer passengers for Line No. 1 and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line at Yongsan Station should use other lines."
