In Jongno District, Seoul, a drunk driver sped toward a Japanese tourist mother and daughter who were crossing a crosswalk, killing one person.
Hyehwa Police Station in Seoul said on the 3rd that a man in his 30s, identified as A, was booked on the 2nd on charges of drunk driving and causing death or injury by dangerous driving under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
A is accused of driving after drinking and plowing onto the sidewalk at around 10 p.m. on the 2nd at the Dongdaemun Station intersection in Jongno District, striking a Japanese tourist mother and daughter. The blood alcohol concentration at the time was at a level that warrants license revocation.
The 58-year-old Japanese mother went into cardiac arrest and was taken to a hospital, but died. The 38-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries.
Police who responded to the report arrested A at the scene. Police are investigating A to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
