On the 20th, a 25-ton (t) dump truck plunged into a large water-filled pit at a quarry in Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province, and the driver, identified only as A, in his 60s, who had been missing, was found dead four days after the accident.
Fire authorities, who had continued the search since the 21st, recovered A's body from underwater near the truck at about 10:13 a.m. on the 24th and handed it over to the bereaved family.
A was reported missing at about 10:50 a.m. on the 20th when the truck fell into a pit at a quarry in Gaehwa-ri, Seongju-myeon, Boryeong-si, while hauling soil by dump truck to fill the pit.
The pit measures 80 meters wide and 40 meters long. Fire authorities carried out drainage of the pit while deploying divers, drones, boats, and water rescue dogs to search for A. However, they had difficulty securing visibility due to the muddy water.
