A member of a voice phishing (telephone financial fraud) ring who had been working as a cash collector was caught by police inside the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office building while chasing a victim who was fleeing.
According to police on the 24th, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul urgently arrested a man in his 20s, a person surnamed Yoo, at about 9:30 p.m. the previous day on suspicion of attempting to deliver voice phishing proceeds to the organization.
Yoo, a low-level member of the voice phishing ring who had served as a cash collector, reportedly followed the victim to the prosecutors' office building after the victim he met in Seocho-dong tried to hand over cash, realized it was a scam, and ran away.
The victim evaded Yoo and entered the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office building, asked a security officer on duty for help, and Yoo was apprehended by police officers who responded to the scene. Police said they will question Yoo in detail about the crime and then decide whether to seek an arrest warrant.
