The Ministry of Justice suspended a senior prosecutor under investigation by prosecutors over sexual misconduct.
The Ministry of Justice said on the 22nd that it decided to suspend the performance of duties by Senior Prosecutor A at the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office, judging it markedly inappropriate for A to carry out duties. Senior Prosecutor A is known to be under suspicion related to sexual misconduct.
Recently, the Gangnam Police Station referred Senior Prosecutor A to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office with a recommendation to indict. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office assigned the case to the Women and Children Crime Investigation Department 1 (headed by Director General Park Eun-hye) and is investigating.
Earlier the same day, Acting Prosecutor General No Man-seok, under the Prosecutors' Disciplinary Act, asked Minister of Justice Jeong Seong-ho to suspend Senior Prosecutor A from performing duties, and Minister Jeong accepted the request and suspended A.
The Supreme Public Prosecutors' Office is also conducting an inspection of Senior Prosecutor A, separate from the investigation.
The Ministry of Justice said it will take stern measures based on the inspection results.
