The detention of 10 suspects, for whom arrest warrants were sought on charges of taking part in a romance scam after being repatriated from Cambodia, will be decided on the 21st. Forty-eight people have already been detained.
The Uijeongbu District Court will hold pre-arrest questioning (warrant review) for 10 suspects for whom arrest warrants were sought on charges including violating the Telecommunications Business Act starting at 10:30 a.m. that day.
Earlier, the government repatriated 64 nationals from Cambodia on the 18th. Of them, arrest warrants were requested for 59, and prosecutors returned one warrant request. Four were released without a warrant request.
The 10 suspects who have not yet been detained appeared at the Uijeongbu District Court around 9:45 a.m. that day in a transport vehicle. They did not answer reporters' questions such as "Why did you go to Cambodia," "Did you take part in a romance scam," and "Were you tortured locally." Their detention status is expected to be decided late that afternoon.
