A chairperson of a private school in Seoul is under police investigation on allegations of directing staff to take a grandchild to and from school and clean up after a pet dog, and of privately misusing school funds.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said on Oct. 20 that it recently filed a complaint with the Namdaemun Police Station against Chairperson A on charges including embezzlement and breach of trust.

Earlier, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education conducted an audit of a private school under its jurisdiction. According to the audit, from March last year for about a year, A had staff use a school foundation vehicle to take A's grandchild to and from school. A also had staff handle pet dog waste.

The office also found indications that A used the school foundation's budget for personal purposes, including paying comprehensive income tax and child care expenses for the grandchild. A also hired a child at an enterprise run by the school foundation; the child reportedly performed no particular work but received 90 million won.

While reporting A to the police, the office also plans to seek cancellation of A's appointment as an executive.
