A poll found that incumbent Mayor Oh Se-hoon is the most suitable candidate for Seoul mayor to be elected in the local elections in June next year.
In a candidate suitability and issues poll conducted by polling firm KSTAT at the request of Weekly Chosun on Oct. 10–11 of 800 voters in Seoul aged 18 and older, Mayor Oh recorded the highest suitability at 25% as the next Seoul mayor.
He was followed by Rep. Park Jumin at 12%, Rep. Na Kyung-won of the People Power Party at 11%, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok at 9%, Cho Kuk, emergency committee chair of the Rebuilding Korea Party, at 8%, Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik at 4%, and Jung Won-oh, head of Seoul's Seongdong District, at 2%. In addition, 14% of respondents said there was "no suitable person."
By age, apart from those in their 40s (22%) and 50s (18%) where Rep. Park enjoyed stronger support, more respondents in the remaining groups said Mayor Oh was the most suitable.
Seoul voters cited the following as priority issues the metropolitan chief executive should resolve: ▲ real estate stabilization (35%) ▲ jobs and economic revitalization (25%) ▲ transportation and housing (15%) ▲ welfare and safety net (13%) ▲ education and childcare (6%) ▲ environment and climate response (3%).
Meanwhile, negative evaluations of the current administration's real estate measures stood at 45%, slightly higher than positive views (43%). Specifically, the shares were "doing fairly well" (34%), "doing very poorly" (23%), "not doing well" (22%), and "doing very well" (9%).
The survey was conducted via telephone interviews using randomly extracted mobile phone safe numbers. The margin of error is ±3.5 percentage points at the 95% confidence level, and the response rate is 11.8%. Details are available on the website of the National Election Survey Deliberation Commission.
