People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said on Oct. 18 that he met former President Yoon Suk-yeol for 10 minutes at the Seoul Detention Center on Oct. 17.
On his Facebook page, Jang wrote, "I visited President Yoon Suk-yeol for a meeting yesterday morning," and "Even in a difficult situation, he was firmly armed with the words of the Bible and prayer."
This visit was conducted as a general visit. Detention center visits consist of general visits and special visits. A general visit is a 30-minute meeting with an inmate separated by a transparent plastic wall. A special visit is held in a separate reception room equipped with sofas and a table, with the warden's approval.
Earlier, during his candidacy for party leader, Jang pledged as a campaign promise that he would "visit the former president at an appropriate time." After he was elected, Jang applied for a special visit with the former president, but the detention center denied it, citing the special counsel investigation.
