In Miryang, South Gyeongsang, an octogenarian died after being bitten by a dangerous dog she had raised for about three years.
According to the Miryang Police Station on the 17th, at about 7:30 a.m. the previous day, in the yard of a dwellings in Naeil-dong, Miryang, a woman in her 80s, identified as A, was bitten about 10 times on the neck and arms by one of the pit bull terriers she usually kept.
A was seriously injured in the accident and died while being transported to a hospital.
A was raising three pit bull terriers, and it is known that she died while trying to stop a fight between two of them.
A reportedly had been keeping the pit bull terrier that bit her since 2022. The dog was known to be particularly aggressive and was euthanized immediately after the accident.
The remaining two were reportedly sent elsewhere by A's son, who lived with her.
Under the Animal Protection Act, pit bull terriers are classified as dangerous dogs. They can be kept only with permission from the local government head, but according to police, A and others had not obtained the required permits.
Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
