Former lawmaker Lee Sang-min died on the 15th. He was 67.
According to the fire authorities, at about 9:30 a.m. that day, a report was filed to 119 that there was a patient showing paralysis symptoms in one side at an apartment in Yuseong District, Daejeon. When firefighters arrived, the patient was already in cardiac arrest, and was transported to a hospital while receiving emergency treatment, but died. The fire authorities confirmed that the patient was the former lawmaker Lee.
Lee was elected in Yuseong District, Daejeon, in the 17th general election in 2004. In the 18th general election, he ran with the Liberty Forward Party and was elected, and in the 19th general election, he was also elected in Yuseong District with the Democratic United Party. In the 20th and 21st general elections, he ran in the Daejeon Yuseong-eul constituency with the Democratic Party of Korea and was elected.
Lee was a prominent non-Lee Jae-myung figure within the Democratic Party and left the party in Dec. 2023. In the 22nd general election held last year, he ran in his district with the People Power Party but lost. He has since served as the People Power Party's Daejeon chapter chair.
