Police detected signs that LG Display's technology was leaked to China and launched an investigation, sources said on the 13th.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Industrial Technology Security Investigation Unit said it conducted a search and seizure at the LG Display Paju plant in Paju, Gyeonggi, on the 2nd.
Police detected suspicions that two employees at the site passed display-related technology to a Chinese company and are investigating them on suspicion of violating the Industrial Technology Protection Act. Police were said to have found hundreds of photos taken of internal materials from one of them.
Police uncovered 27 cases of overseas technology leaks last year and eight in the first half of this year. Of the 35 cases, 25 (71.4%) were leaked to China.
The Seoul agency also detected signs on the 1st that Samsung Display's latest technology was leaked to a specific company in China and conducted a search and seizure at the Samsung Display Asan Campus in South Chungcheong. However, the Chinese corporations suspected of receiving the leaked technology from the two companies are said to be different entities.
