Nine people, including an on-duty police officer and a soldier, who approached minors using social media (SNS) and demanded and obtained sexually exploitative material, were handed over to prosecutors.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Bucheon Ojeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said on the 10th that it arrested and sent to prosecutors six people, including Police Officer A, a man in his 20s affiliated with the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency, on charges including producing sexually exploitative material under the Act on the Protection of Children and Adolescents from Sexual Offenses and violating the Child Welfare Act. Three others, including a man in his 30s, were sent to prosecutors without detention on the same charges.
From 1 to Jul., they allegedly obtained and possessed photos and videos of body parts from teenager Ms. B whom they met via SNS, receiving them from once to as many as 40 or more times.
Police received a report in Apr. from Ms. B's parents, who learned of the harm, and have been investigating. The police investigation found the suspects do not know one another. Each approached Ms. B via SNS and committed the crimes.
According to police, the suspects include not only Police Officer A but also an active-duty soldier and a U.S. permanent resident.
