The court has allowed broadcasting of former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo's second trial on charges of abetting insurrection. Proceedings from start to finish will be recorded by a court camera and released after a personal information protection process. Earlier, the court also allowed broadcasting of the first trial on the abetting insurrection charge for the former prime minister on the 30th.
On the 10th, the 33rd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Baek Dae-hyun) approved broadcasting of the former prime minister's trial under Article 11 of the Special Prosecutor Act on Insurrection.
Previously, the special counsel requested the court to allow broadcasting of the second trial on the former prime minister's charge of abetting insurrection. Article 11, Paragraph 4 of the Special Prosecutor Act stipulates that if there is a request from the special prosecutor or the defendant, broadcasting must be permitted unless there are special circumstances.
The footage recorded by the court will be released later through the internet and other channels. The court said, "As with examples of argument videos from the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court, de-identification measures for personal information and the like will be taken."
Meanwhile, on Aug. 29, the special prosecutor indicted the former prime minister without detention on six charges, including abetting the leader of an insurrection, drafting false official documents and using false official documents, damage to public records, violation of the Act on the Management of Presidential Archives, and perjury. The former prime minister is accused of participating in or abetting former President Yoon Suk-yeol's proclamation of emergency martial law on Dec. 3 last year.
